The Orchard Tangles With TFF Documentary Hit ‘Crocodile Gennadiy’

Apr 20, 2015

New York — April 20, 2015 — The Orchard announced today that they have acquired all North American rights to Animal Media Group’s documentary feature CROCODILE GENNADIY. The film, directed by Steve Hoover, recently celebrated its World Premiere at 2015 Tribeca Film Festival to critical acclaim.

Danny Yourd, Hoover’s long time creative partner, produced the film. The executive producers are Terrence Malick and Nicholas Gonda, and Animal Media Group executives Jim Kreitzburg, Kathy Dziubek and Michael Killen. Atticus Ross, Academy Award winner for Best Original Score for THE SOCIAL NETWORK, is the composer on the film.

In CROCODILE GENNADIY, Gennadiy Mokhnenko has made a name for himself by forcibly abducting homeless drug-addicted kids from the streets of Mariupol, Ukraine. As his country leans towards a European Union inclusion, hopes of continued post-Soviet revitalization seem possible. In the meantime, Gennadiy’s center has evolved into a more nebulous institution.

This marks Hoover’s second film. His first feature, BLOOD BROTHER, won both the Audience and Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary at Sundance 2013.

“I could not be more excited to be teaming up with The Orchard. Their passion and vision for this film felt like the perfect strategy to bring it to audiences,” says Hoover. “It’s been an amazing ride so far with such a great and supportive team on board; I’m thrilled to be moving forward.”

“Told through the eyes of a complex savior fighting for children who have been left behind, CROCODILE GENNADIY is a beautifully cinematic film that is a testament to the good in all of us,” said The Orchard’s SVP of Film and TV, Paul Davidson. “Steve and Danny deliver a captivating story that has an emotional punch few people will forget.”

The deal was negotiated by Danielle DiGiacomo on behalf of The Orchard and Abby Davis of Preferred Content on behalf of the filmmakers. Roco Films is on board for International sales.
