The Orchard Catches Big Air With Adam Lough’s “The Motivation 2.0: The Chris Cole Story”
Apr 16, 2015
In the follow-up to 2013’s pro-skateboarding documentary “The Motivation,” Lough captures the true-life story of world renowned skateboarder Chris Cole
New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA – April 16, 2015 – The Orchard, has acquired worldwide digital distribution rights to director Adam Lough’s The Motivation 2.0, which made its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. The documentary, the sequel to The Motivation, follows the journey of Chris Cole, a two-time X Games Gold Medalist and Thrasher Magazine’s “Skater of the Year” in both 2005 and 2009. This inside look into the pro-skateboarding world comes from internationally acclaimed filmmaker Adam Lough, three-time Sundance Film Festival alum, Spirit Award-nominated director and one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “Top 25 Independent Filmmakers to Watch.”
“We are focused on making The Motivation series the #1 documentary film series in Skateboarding, eventually reaching beyond to other sports,” said director Adam Lough. “This partnership with The Orchard will be a game-changer in that regard.”
Lough provided an all-access view into the professional skateboarding world in The Motivation when he followed eight of the globe’s best pro-skateboarders as they prepared to compete for the Street League Challenge. In his second pro-skateboarding documentary, Lough highlights Chris Cole and his remarkable story, from his beginnings as a skateboarder on the streets of Philadelphia, specifically the curb in his mother’s building complex that started it all, to his improbable rise to the top and his ongoing dedication to giving other children the opportunities he never had.
The Orchard will release the film on digital services on June 23, following a world premiere in Los Angeles the same month. The Motivation 2.0 marks yet another top tier sports film addition to The Orchard catalog.
“Having been a fan of Adam’s great work over the years, it’s a privilege to partner on this project together,” says The Orchard’s Director of Sports, Jim Martin. “After experiencing the scope of The Motivation, we knew we wanted to get into business, and The Motivation 2.0allowed us to do so. Not only is this the compelling history of Chris Cole, but Adam’s filmmaking expertise adds impeccable quality to the experience.”
The deal was negotiated by Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films on behalf of the filmmakers. Produced by Adam Bhala Lough and Ethan Higbee.
