The Orchard Acquires BalconyTV and Its Vast Library of Performances from Around The World is a New Global Music Channel Featuring Videos From 50 Cities Across 24 Countries

New York, NY – March 6, 2014 - The Orchard, a pioneering independent music, film and video distribution company and top-ranked Multi-Channel Network, announced today it acquired BalconyTV, a collection of artists playing on balconies filmed by an international network of producers around the world. The Orchard will amplify BalconyTV’s reach through its global operations, audience development expertise and worldwide client base while retaining the DIY spirit and ethos that BalconyTV has fostered since its founding 8 years ago.

Started in 2006, by three friends in Dublin, Ireland, BalconyTV has built its channel by empowering their passionate network of local producers to scout talented, up and coming artists in their regions. The shows include early performances by artists such as Mumford and Sons, The Script, Edward Sharpe, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J and Kimbra on scenic balconies in cities such as Dublin, London, Barcelona, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Delhi, Tel Aviv, Johannesburg and Melbourne. Each week, fifty new videos are added to, enabling new artists to reach discerning music fans and new fans to discover exciting artists. The Orchard and BalconyTV will continue to develop the vast video catalogue, open new balconies and increase engagement across the channel.

“We literally started BalconyTV on our apartment balcony in Dublin. Since then it’s been incredible to see such a simple idea generate so much passion from music lovers all over the world,” said Stephen O’ Regan, Founder of BalconyTV. “It’s certainly been an interesting ride and now with The Orchard’s experience and network we can continue the journey.”

The worldwide audience of BalconyTV has generated over 50 million views of its videos. Viewers are also to participate in a weekly Global Music Rumble where they vote on artists they like. Using these crowd-sourced results, The Orchard will call into service their local marketing teams across to further develop the talented acts that rise out of this global music community.

“BalconyTV is a perfect complement to everything we do: discovery, audience development and marketing across a global network,” said Brad Navin, CEO of The Orchard. “Together we’ll capitalize on the opportunities available through streaming, help artists promote their creative works and continue to use music as a way to break down borders.”

BalconyTV videos are currently viewable through YouTube, Vevo, Daily Motion and Muzu, among others and will receive increased distribution via The Orchard through services such as Hulu. Watch the BalconyTV trailer here and visit to see full performances and vote on your favorites.
