The Orchard Acquires Award Winning Documentary “The Dawn Wall”

    May 18, 2018

A theatrical release is planned this fall for the SXSW Audience Award Winner

Los Angeles, CA May 18, 2018 – The Orchard announced today that the company has acquired U.S. rights to Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer’s The Dawn Wall. The adventure-packed documentary produced by Red Bull Media House in association with Sender Films, which Variety called a “must-see experience,” offers a riveting inside look at the historic 3,000 foot climb in Yosemite National Park attempted by American rock climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson in January 2015. A theatrical release is planned for this fall.

In January, 2015, American rock climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson captivated the world with their effort to climb the Dawn Wall, a seemingly impossible 3,000 foot rock face in Yosemite National Park, California. The pair lived on the sheer vertical cliff for weeks, igniting a frenzy of global media attention. But for Tommy Caldwell, the Dawn Wall was much more than just a climb. It was the culmination of a lifetime defined by overcoming obstacles. At the age of 22, the climbing prodigy was taken hostage by rebels in Kyrgyzstan. Shortly after, he lost his index finger in an accident but resolved to come back stronger. When his marriage fell apart, he escaped the pain by fixating on the extraordinary goal of free climbing the Dawn Wall. Blurring the line between dedication and obsession, Caldwell and his partner Jorgeson spend six years meticulously plotting and practicing their route. On the final attempt, with the world watching, Caldwell is faced with a moment of truth. Should he abandon his partner to fulfill his ultimate dream, or risk his own success for the sake of their friendship?

The Dawn Wall is a truly incredible story,” said Danny Grant, The Orchard’s VP of Sports Acquisitions. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Red Bull Media House and Sender Films to distribute it.”

The Dawn Wall showcases Red Bull Media House’s commitment telling excellent stories, and the spirit of dreaming big,” said Jürgen Kinateder, Executive Producer at Red Bull Media House HQ “we are excited to team up with The Orchard to bring this documentary to a broad audience in the US.”

“After seven years of filming and another three years of post-production, we are proud that The Dawn Wall finally releases in theaters,” adds Josh Lowell, Director. “Tommy took us on this wild climbing adventure with his partner Kevin, and their motivation and drive goes deeper than anything we’ve encountered in filmmaking.”

The deal was negotiated by The Orchard’s Danny Grant and CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers.

Los Angeles, CA – May 14, 2018 –The Orchard announced today that the company has acquired North American rights to Eva Vives’ feature directorial debut All About Nina, which had its world premiere in the U.S. Narrative Competition at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival last month. The film’s strong supporting cast includes a revelatory Common, who portrays a man of utmost decency, patience, and love. I am so excited and proud that a company with a track record and taste as exquisite as The Orchard will help me put it out in the world. Working with Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Common, was a dream come true. I hope you laugh as much as I did making this film.”

“All About Nina is a rare film in its honesty and its comedy, which is clearly a testament to Eva and Mary’s tireless work in bringing this story to the screen,” said Paul Davidson, EVP of Film and TV, The Orchard. “We know audiences will fall for this film and we are excited to take this journey with them and a team of producers for whom we have the greatest respect and admiration.”

The Orchard Signs Two-Picture Deal With JKLC Films To Release New Films For The UFO Genre Titled “Bob Lazar” And “Hunt For The Skinwalker”

    Mar 27, 2018

Los Angeles, California – March 27, 2018 – The Orchard announced today it has signed a two-picture deal with JKLC Films to release two new films for the UFO genre entitled Bob Lazar and Hunt For The Skinwalker in late 2018. Following the success of Patient Seventeen, investigative filmmaker Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Corbell has brought two of the most influential UFO-related stories in modern history to life, breaking new ground on recently revealed government UFO programs. The films continue The Orchard’s success in the UFO genre, following the distribution company’s release of Michael Mazzola’s Unacknowledged: The Greatest Secret In Human History, the highest grossing documentary on iTunes for 2017.

Bob Lazar, former Government Physicist, remains the singular most famous and controversial name in the world of UFOs. Over the years Lazar has remained elusive, and for the most part, silent. His disclosures have turned his life upside-down and he has tried to stay out of the spot-light. For this reason, he has never let any filmmaker into the private world of his daily life – that is – until now. Corbell’s film, Bob Lazar, will explore Lazar’s claims through the lens of thirty years – providing rare and never before revealed footage – guaranteed to alter the landscape of the debate.

“I know there are alien craft here from another planet. I saw nine, but I was INSIDE one. I know it was not made on Earth. I know it was made with materials that we cannot fabricate, and we cannot duplicate… we’ve never been able to,” says Bob Lazar. “It’s nothing I would have ever expected to see. I also know that we have examined bodies of alien creatures. I know this for a fact, and that’s the bottom line.”

Based on the best-selling book by George Knapp & Dr. Colm Kelleher, Hunt for The Skinwalker is a documentary about the most intensive scientific study of a paranormal hotspot in human his-tory. In 1996 a real estate mogul and self-made billionaire, Robert Bigelow (of Bigelow Aero-space) purchased 480 acres of land in northern Utah for use as a “living laboratory” – to study the UFO phenomenon.

“I’m excited to work with The Orchard to release these two groundbreaking films on the subject of UFOs, and the government’s involvement in the subject,” said Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Cor-bell, founder of JKLC Films. “These stories have been kept from the public for thirty years, and with the recent news coverage and the Pentagon’s admission of an active program studying these issues, there is now a unique opportunity to share them with a wide audience. I’m both excited and hopeful that the UFO problem will be illuminated in a sophisticated and newsworthy way.”

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Jeremy on these historic releases,” said Jim Martin, at The Orchard. “As fans of the content we’re excited to learn the true story behind these secret events that have been kept from the public for decades and will shift the discussion of the UFO phenomenon.”
