BOOSEY & HAWKES PARTNER WITH THE ORCHARD IN UNIQUE CONTENT OFFERING
Iconic Music Publisher makes its Entire Recorded Music Library Available for Digital Only Sale
London and New York – October 24th, 2007 – The Orchard, a global leader in digital music, video and new media services, and Boosey & Hawkes Production Music, the media arm of Boosey & Hawkes, and one of the world’s first music publishers, today announced the signing of an exclusive licensing deal for the digital sale of Boosey & Hawkes’ entire production music library, including the famous Cavendish, Sonoton and Abaco Music libraries.
The deal reflects Boosey & Hawkes decision to retail its substantial recorded music library, following an unprecedented consumer demand for tracks featured in recent Orange and Oxo commercials, the video game "Colin McRae DiRT", the TV show "SpongeBob SquarePants", the US drama series "Men in Trees", and evergreen classics including The Archers and Ski Sunday theme tunes. Commencing this December, consumers will be able to purchase many of their favourite, and previously unavailable TV and radio tracks, from all leading digital retailers supplied by The Orchard.
"This is a significant deal for us and our composers. It marks not only a new direction for the company but also a new revenue stream", said Michael Shaw, Head of Media at Boosey & Hawkes, "Selling recordings direct to consumers is not something expected from music publishers, but high demand from the public trying to purchase our tracks has led us to this decision. This partnership will give people access to previously unavailable music, and that makes us very excited.”
The Boosey & Hawkes production library will add over 100,000 tracks to The Orchard's already substantial and diverse music offering.
"To partner with such a world renowned music institution like Boosey & Hawkes is an accolade for The Orchard", said Greg Scholl, President and Chief Executive of The Orchard. "This is a catalogue of extraordinary depth, which will resonate with a large number of consumers previously unable to purchase these songs".
